Bio
Hi, my name is Daniel Ulacia, I'm a filmmaker living and working in Mexico City. I studied Visual Arts at the Arts Faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. My main field of work is developing community filmmaking, along with film and video workshops. Currently I'm developing a film workshop with the kids from La Merced Market. I've worked as a professor at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education for one year (2014-2015), teaching Film, TV, and Radio Production to highschool students, and as an assistant professor at the Arts Faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, teaching animation (2010-2014).
My involvement in Wikipedia began thanks to Leigh Thelmadatter (User:Thelmadatter) who introduced me to the many different possibilities in uploading content to Wiki. Because of this, my main interest is in developing media content (photos and videos) to this wonderful project. Through the spring semester in 2015 we began working in a project to create a short video documentary/testimonial about Wiki projects at the Tec de Monterrey by high school students and digital animation students under my direction which we presented at the 2015 Wikimania in Mexico City. Because the video was so well received, I'm looking forward to work together in the creation of more so that more people know about the Wikipedia reach throughout the world.
As a filmmaker, my work has been exhibited at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival (2015), the International Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City (DocsDF) (2013), the International Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival (2013), and at the Morelia International Film Festival, where I won the prize for the best short documentary film in 2012.
So that's basically it for the moment.
