User:Durova/Reality check
Welcome to Durova's friendly neighborhood reality check, provided for times when the ways of the wiki obstruct common sense.
Example
[edit]Here's a discussion that needs a reality check:
Editor A: Why did you remove the lyrics from that popular song article?
Editor B: Those lyrics are copyrighted.
Editor A: But they were useful.
Editor B: What part was most useful? We could quote a couple of lines.
Editor A: Oh, all the lines are useful.
Editor B: Well we can't republish the entire lyrics; that would infringe on copyright.
Editor A: But it's a great song. I'll get some people to agree with me and then we'll have consensus to use all the lyrics.
Whoa, a few people's idea of useful can't trump the law. Editor B tried to reason with Editor A, but that isn't working. What's needed is a friendly reality check.
