In the Canterbury tales he tricks people out of their gold by selling ¨holy¨ relics from back then, ranging from cloth from Christ sail, to THE BONES OF CHRIST HIMSELF. One man in this story could see past the pardoners lies and deceit. The host himself the knight although wasn't as wise as the host.

The Tale

[edit]

The Host ask the pardoner to tell a tale and he says to make it a serious tale no jokes. The Pardoner then goes to tell the tale of the three ruffians and death himself. The three ruffians go out to find a ¨man named death¨ that killed a friend of theirs, they stumble upon an old-man they thought to be death. And he leads them to a tree. The ruffians discover riches so much gold for a lifetime. They decide to wait to move this gold to a better location. As the youngest goes to get food and water for the ruffians for the night the other 2 plot to kill the youngest because splitting the gold with 2 is better. At the same time the third ruffian is plotting the same thing as he puts rat poison in the water. He returns and to his surprise they stab and kill him and the other two are killed from drinking his water.

The Ruffians

[edit]

In the pardoners tale he talks of these bad people named the ruffians that portray the pardoner himself, but in the end the ruffians let their greed get the best of them even though they were all friends.

¨(whispering) But in reality its just an old pillowcase¨

¨Or at least that is what I tell people¨

These quotes show the obvious deceit the pardoner was pulling, and his morals.

The Host and the Pardoner

[edit]

The host could see through the pardoners deceit lies, and unholiness. And at the end the Knight told them to set aside their differences and make up.
