Jeffrey Scott Shapiro is an American journalist and attorney who has investigated and reported on several high-profile criminal cases, including the disappearance and murders of JonBenét Ramsey and Chandra Levy, the Columbine High School massacre and the sexual assault allegations against NBA player Kobe Bryant. Shapiro received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University in 1995 his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2005.

Career

Earlier in his career, Shapiro investigated several crime stories on location including the JonBenet Ramsey murder case, the Columbine shootings and the disappearance of Chandra Levy.

He formerly served as a White House intern in the Clinton administration in 1996 and worked as a legal intern for the Democratic National Committee's Legal Team during the presidential elections of 2004.

Currently prosecutes First Amendment cases for the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. He continues to write about political and legal affairs.

Kobe Bryant Rape Case

He is the author of "Kobe Bryant: The Game of His Life," the only book ever published on the Bryant criminal case, which Shapiro covered for CBS' "48 Hours Investigates." It was serialized in the New York Daily News, The Portland Tribune and The Toronto Sun.

Shapiro is best known for a story he published in The Washington Times' "Insight on the News," about an FBI investigation concerning possible prior knowledge of the Sept. 11 attacks in the Arab-American community in New York City. The story also featured Shapiro's own investigation, which led him to many mosques, foreign consulates and law enforcement agencies in New York and New Jersey in an attempt to track al-Qaeda's presence in the area. The article, which was featured in Newsweek, on NBC's "TODAY Show " and on FOX News Channel's "O'Reilly Factor," also made international news in England and Australia.
