About me
[edit]I'm a retired biology lab technician and educational technology specialist, watercolor painter and lifelong learner. I became a early and enthusiastic adopter of the World Wide Web when I first time I laid eyes on NCSA Mosaic back in the early 90s. Full disclosure here: I didn't see that point at first until the Vatican Archives went on-line. Then I could begin to see the possibilities.
After retirement I was thrilled when a local chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was established in 2007. It has allowed me to continue to pursue a number of fascinating topics - investigative journalism, GMOs, pseudoscience, art history and DNA, all the while accompanied by curious minded newly made friends. When another member proposed a study group on editing Wikipedia I realized that I could not only be a consumer but also contributor to this astonishing body of work.
Interests
[edit]My interests are diverse, unfocused, and impossible to set forth systematically. The truth is, I'm liable to chase any bright and shiny object that comes to my attention. These are some of the places, in no particular order, that I'm likely to show up in: Women artists, Personal genomics, behavioral genetics, pandemics and public health, history of human migration, butterfly gardening and natural landscaping, popular culture, archeological history of the American Southwest, genealogy, history of Chicago, history of animal welfare.
Projects
[edit]My immediate project is gathering information about the Canadian Maritimes in preparation for an upcoming cruise vacation.
Future goals
[edit]Ultimately I'd like to produce content about the history of our local humane society.
