The Class D52 is a class of general-purpose steam locomotives operated by the Kereta Api Indonesia (DKA). The class holds the distinction of being the only mainline steam locomotives to be ordered after Indonesia's proclamation of independence.[2]

History

[edit]

The D52 class were initially allocated to Bandung Locomotive Depot, but from 1965, they began to be distributed elsewhere, as locomotive D52065 got stuck at Trowek (now Cirahayu), leading to other D52s being barred from operating on the Ciawi-Bandung-Purwakarta section.[3]

Preservation

[edit]

D52099, on display at Purwosari railway station in Surakarta, Central Java, is the only surviving member of the D52 class. This locomotive uilitlised parts from other D52 locomotives including D52080, D52074 and D52009.[4]
