Early life

[edit]

Luharjar was born as Rahul Raj Singh on 13 June 2000 at KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore, and is the son of Dave and Maya Raj. He has two brothers. He showed interest in many genres of music at an early age and started watching live performances of other disc jockeys and music producers at the age of 10, constantly experimenting with Digital Audio Workstation software such as FL Studio and DJ software such as VirtualDJ, with his cousin, who also shared a similar interest.

In 2018, he expressed interest to pursue his studies in music and enrolled into Republic Polytechnic, graduating in 2021 with a Diploma in Sonic Arts. During his time there, he joined the student-run interest group Electronic Music Production (EMP) in 2018, and helmed the role of President of the club for the duration of 2019-2020. It was during this stint in EMP where he picked up the skills of a disc jockey from his student mentors.

2018-2019: Beginning, "EMP", and Collaboration

[edit]

Luharjar made his performing debut with his music collective, Electronic Music Production, or EMP, which he became a part of in early-2018 when he joined Republic Polytechnic. He was chosen to play for Electronic Picnic 2018, a collaborative event between EMP and *Scape Singapore. When choosing a stage name for marketing collateral, he settled on an Anadrome of his given name, with Rahul spelt backwards forming 'Luhar', and Raj spelt backwards forming 'Jar', resulting in 'Luharjar'.

In 2019, he began his second year with EMP after being voted as its President for the course of that year. Luharjar continued to perform at shows in Republic Polytechnic, representing EMP. As President, he took helm in planning and executing events throughout the year, along-side his team.
