Bridgeman was born and grew up in Southport Merseyside and is the daughter of an accountant, the late John Bridgeman and social worker, Eileen Bridgeman. She has a brother, James and sister, Lara.

From a very early age, Bridgeman showed a natural talent for all sport. She excelled in football (she trained with the Liverpool Football Club girls team), swam competitively for Liverpool Swimming Club and Wigan Wasps and represented her City and town as a member of the Southport and Waterloo Athletic Club. She also belonged to the prestigious Miler running Club, where she trained as a mid-distance runner.

Bridgeman started her school days at Saint Jeromes Roman Catholic school in Formby, Merseyside. Following a fire at Saint Jeromes, she transferred to Merchant Taylor's Junior School for Girls, in Crosby Merseyside, where her athletic prowess was nurtured.

As well as her sporting ability, Bridgeman possessed a fine singing voice and when she was thirteen was invited to join the Liverpool Cathedral first girls choirliverpool cathedral. However, it was not long before a choice between sport and music had to be made. and Bridgeman gave up her place in the Liverpool Cathedral Choir to pursue her career in sport, choosing to combine In 2002 Bridgeman put forward by her coaches to be the youngest carrier in the Oueens Jubilee Baton Relay in Liverpool Quenns jubilee baton relay 2002 swimming and running talents and to compete in her first ever first ever national Biathle heat, which secured her a place on the Great Britain Biathle team in 2004 resulting in being placed ninth in the World Championonships in -Hertogenbosch, Germany. Continuing in this way Bridgeman went on to claim Junior World Championships in Shanghai, China, on 8 August 2006 placed forth in the world.

Shortly after this success, Bridgeman's athletic life was tragically ended as a result of a back injury caused by carrying excessive weight during a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. For two years Bridgeman was home tutored and in constant pain. During this time, Bridgeman lost her beloved father to (SADS) Sudden Adult Death Syndrome
