I dislike sentences that start with the word however. Use nevertheless, nonetheless, etc., instead! El_C 13:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

However, sentences beginning with "however" are correctly formed if the meaning of the following sentence contrasts with that of the preceding sentence. What I very much hope you are not implying is that a sentence like this is acceptable: "He was short however he could see over the wall." This kind of horror is spreading. The "however" here should be replaced by that honest little word "but". The word "however" is used for contrasting two separate sentences. If you don't like it at the beginning, how about this (which is OK): "John likes football. His girlfriend, however, hates it." ? Pangapilot 19:34, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that's exactly how I do it. El_C 01:25, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
