Saw X: "Marketing" section under Release (edited by Mike Allen)[edit]

On September 9, 2023, Lionsgate announced return of the Saw Blood Drive, a promotional event allowing audiences to donate blood to the American Red Cross in exchange for free tickets to the opening weekend of Saw X.[1]

On September 13, 2023, a parody of Nicole Kidman AMC Theatres commercial was published to YouTube and to Lionsgate's social media platforms.[2] It featured a remote-controlled Billy the Puppet on a tricycle[3] in place of Kidman, with some slight changes to reflect the graphic nature of Saw. While the parody was met with humorous responses by news outlets, it was pulled from Lionsgate's accounts due to a cease and desist order by AMC Theatres.[4] Writer Josh Stolberg released a statement on the trailer's takedown, calling people "lucky" if they managed to watch the parody before its removal, though re-uploads exist and is spread across multiple channels not affiliated with Lionsgate.[4]

Plot section for Dear David[edit]

In 1996, David gets bullied over a crude Paint drawing over instant messaging. After choosing to retaliate, he later decides to commit suicide at the sarcastic request of one of the bullies.

In 2017, Adam Ellis encounters a troll on one of his comics for BuzzFeed. Meanwhile, two teenagers encounter the chat room of the late David, knowingly breaking the rules as they begin messaging. David responds with knowledge that there's two people talking, to the surprise of the teenagers. After asking a third question about their future cause of death, the teenager gets killed at midnight with method exactly how David described it in his answer.

Adam heeds his boss Bryce's request to improve his reach with "authentic original content" in a new comic, but the trolls persist, forcing him to retaliate. He later gets a response from David, calling him out on his retaliation, which Adam ignores. In the next morning, Adam notices phantom movements on his rocking chair. Later, he reads an article about a teenager found dead in bed. After witnessing supernatural phenomena, he rushes back home, discovering the phantom movements continue on his chair with a hallucination of David.

He continues hallucinating with a vision of David's mom in a store, then later with David on the basement computer in 1996. Adam invites Evelyn over to his home, who encourages him to get sleep tonight. However, he instead looks deeper into "Dear David" and paranormal activity. In sleep, Adam encounters David, who says he's "just a follower". The next morning, Adam sees a message from David, calling back to his retaliation.

After noticing two neighbors move upstate, Adam follows suit with a unit upstairs in the same apartment complex. However, his hallucinations persist, seeing David on the door's peephole, forcing him to hide.

In the next day, everyone at BuzzFeed celebrate the success of the Dear David thread. Bryce tells him to spice up the thread with multimedia, and after initial hesitations, he makes the Dear David story interactive by allowing readers to vote on what Adam does next should he encounter David again— the decision is to perform an exorcism. Trolls continue to berate Adam, who claps back. In the early morning, David chokes Adam using the powder by the door. He wakes up with nosebleed after David whacks a typewriter on his face at night. While hunting for David, he encounters Kyle, who comforts him.

Adam recounts his situation to Kyle, who resents him for his unresponsiveness and moving apartments without warning. He revealins Adam's Grindr account, which he remembers deleting. Despite pushing this fact, Kyle breaks up with Adam. Back home, he posts that David may want him dead.

At home, a live feed of Adam begins streaming through his laptop camera. He then answers the unknown caller, who talks with Adam's voice. Evelyn texts him about his booming increase in followers, to his surprise. Later that night, Adam gets dragged from his bed towards the basement, where David is shown disturbing photos in chat. Tony scolds him for this, after which David chokes him. Linda arrives to kill David.

Adam encounters a callback to his initial retaliation against trolls in the mirror before attempting to draw a representation of David the next day. Evelyn dismisses Adam's claims of recently waking up hanging off a window, telling him to seek a sleep study. Bryce calls him, proposing a worldwide expansion of the Dear David article, which Adam reluctantly agrees to. He calls Kyle to help track the owner of David's handle, despite potential privacy concerns. Kyle agrees, and Adam texts the handle.

A woman visits Adam recalling his experience with David, concluding that David's spirit may be connected to Adam, and that Adam may have entertained David into his life. Adam visits Phyllis, who cites another case: that of "Loopy Linda". Adam watches her video later, realising her actions match what happened to David, who may be possessed.

Adam goes to the hospital where David was admitted, finding out he was dead for a few days. He is referred by the receptionist to a psychiatric department in another location. As the receptionist leaves his post, Adam sneaks into the medical records and searches for David's file, discovering that his body went missing from the morgue and is currently under investigation. Adam grabs Dr. Landers' contact and goes inside his home, looking for him. He encounters Linda hanging off a noose by the stairwell, who tells him to get out.

While watching, Adam dozes off and encounters David on television. Adam calls Kyle while cutting himself, wounds persisting as he wakes up. Evelyn denies a conversation from Adam, citing his responses (which he didn't send), eventually leaving him. Kyle calls to tell Adam the David handle doesn't exist, and to move on. Norris sends a list of "top 10 reasons to kill yourself at work". Adam resents Norris, gathering the attention of his co-workers and boss, only to realise that it was "be yourself". Bryce recommends that Adam take time off of work.

Adam draws more comics involving David, now seeing his reputation and credibility declining. He accidentally asks a third question, now losing control. While Adam "dies in a fire", he sees a vision of the people he knows criticizing him after losing his mind.

As his apartment burns, Evelyn and Kyle visit him after Adam fails to answer their calls. After realising there are still people who care for him, Adam wakes up and escapes a now grown-up David, only to attack him again. Adam eventually overpowers him and escapes the complex with Evelyn and Kyle, who apologize for dismissing his claims of being haunted. In return, Adam promises to be more open around them.

Chloe, one of the trolls berating Adam, gets possessed and smashes herself multiple times on the table.
