From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Em3rald is the name, and yeah ... it doesn't mean anything special. I'm relatively new to the wikipedia world, and I've created a number of articles and edited a number of others. I am by no means a pro ... I haven't even gotten around to using templates yet. But it's not the visual representation of the article that is so important is it? Nope, to answer my own question, it's the information that the article contains that is truly important. So, while my articles MIGHT look kinda ugly, the information is (relatively) sound. I hope.  ;)

About Me

[edit]

I am 28 years old, I live near Edmonton, Alberta. I am University educated, but that was years ago, so I claim no responsibility ... nevermind. Anyway, I am friendly, and I don't mind helping people where I can. I pride myself on being an extremely quick learner, even without guidance. It's a cool, though totally unquantifiable skill. I know, millions of people claim to be quick learners ... but I actually am! Everyone else lies. ;)

Skills 'n' stuff

[edit]

Ugh ... my skills ... I am very much a jack-of-all-trades, master of few. That said, I don't generally come across as a "muddle-through-it" sorta guy. Most people seem to think I am just good at stuff. So here is a list of stuff I'm good at.

  • Fixing random stuff from toys to electronics to furniture to automotives etc etc etc.
  • Computers
  • Using Micro$oft operating systems from MSDOS5 to leaked beta versions of Windblows.
  • Using Linux distributions and associated software
  • Mandrake (now Mandriva) which is based on Redhat technology
  • Ubuntu (and it's Kubuntu variant) which is based on Debian technology
  • Graphics editing & other multimedia
  • Macromedia (fireworks, flash, etc), Ahead (entire suite), Jasc, Adobe, etc.
  • Audio DAWs such as Nuendo, Cakewalk, Cooledit, etc. (Soon I am going to try some Linux open source audio DAW software.
  • Web design, network setup, internet dynamics, etc.
  • Hardware assembly and repairs
  • PCs primarily. I research, build, sell, fix, quote, advise, and so on about all aspects of computer hardware. Ask me a question, and I will give you a straight, understandable, clear answer in REAL English. And if I don't know the answer when you ask me, I will know the answer in a very short period of time.
  • Other stuff, but I don't feel like talking about that any more ;)
  • Heavy Labour. Haha, yes, I am very well-versed in hard work.
    Pouring & Finishing concrete.
    Installation & troubleshooting residential electronics.
Flooring of all types (except lino, never done it).
  • More but I am done for now :D

Family

[edit]
  • One of 3 boys.
  • Middle child.
  • Married since 1998, 2 children: Boy (1999), Girl (2002)

History

[edit]

I have added commentaries in the Talk pages of many wikis already, and have added the odd link or tidbit of information to a hand full of other wikis. This article is my first attempt at starting from scratch.

Future

[edit]

I currently have no plans for specific wikis.
