Kanjeng Ratu Kidul (Javanese: ꦏꦚ꧀ꦗꦼꦁ​ꦫꦠꦸ​ꦏꦶꦢꦸꦭ꧀) is a legendary figure who is very popular in the society of Java island and Bali. This figure is publicly frequently mistaken as the same as Nyi Roro Kidul, even though they are both very different. Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is a Holy Spirit who has a noble nature and is good-hearted, she hails from the highest level in the sky, and has descended to various places in the world with an identity of local sacred figures even at different eras. Generally, she shows herself only to give a sign/ warning that an important incident will come. In Javanese mythology, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is a creation of Dewa Kaping Telu. She fills the realm of life as Goddess of the Paddy (Dewi Sri) and other goddesses. While Nyi Rara Kidul was at first a princess of the Sunda Empire who was chased out by her father because of what her stepmother had done. Related stories between "Ratu Kidul" and "Rara Kidul" can be said to have different stages of life according to Javanese Mythology.

Kanjeng Ratu Kidul owns power over the strong waves of the Indian Ocean from her castle which is located at the heart of the sea. According to Javanese beliefs, she is the spiritual partner of Kings of Mataram until the descendants of the Kings in Surakarta and Yogyakarta, starts from Panembahan Senapati. However, at this time, she is seen as a spiritual mother to Sunan Surakarta and even sultan Yogyakarta. Her position is connected to Merapi-Keraton-South Sea which is centered in Kasunanan Surakarta Palace dan Yogyakarta Sultanate Palace.
