Patrick Cybulski[1] (born 1997)[2], known by his stage name K?D (stylized as k?d), is an American electronic musician and DJ. He is known for his single Lose Myself (featuring Phil Good), which charted on the US Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay at #40.[3] He is also known for his remixes of popular electronic songs, most significantly Doin' It Right by Daft Punk and Renaissance (ft. Clairity) by Steve James.[4]

Career[edit]

2015: Early releases[edit]

On May 18, 2015, Cybulski released the single "Gold Blood" on record label Only Delusions. The single has over 20,000 SoundCloud plays.[5] A month later, on June 25, Cybulski released a second single "Space Cowboy" on the same record label. The track has gained over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud.[6]

Cybulski released the single "Bits & Pieces" on July 9, 2015, as a collaboration with Kuiters on the record label Trillers. The song has had over 40,000 SoundCloud plays.[7] On July 20, 2015, Cybulski released two singles on two different record labels: "Zero Zero" on Onstreet, and "Keepo" on ICON. The former has gained 130,000 SoundCloud plays,[8] and the latter has over 150,000 plays.[9]

On August 1, 2015, Cybulski released the track "P A P E R P L A N E" on record label Too Lush, as a part of the label's compilation album Too Lush Vol. 4, which released that day. The song has gained 40,000 plays on SoundCloud.[10]

According to NEST HQ, Cybulski released a single titled "Breeze" at some point in late August 2015.[11] NEST HQ describes the song as "nostalgic, yet progressive and futuristic." No record outside of the NEST HQ website exists of this song, and the website's link to the song leads to a dead page. The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine provides a copy from August 22, 2015[12] of the page that NEST HQ had linked to, which shows that the page was embedded into an older SoundCloud account[13] that k?d has since deleted.

On August 24, 2015, Cybulski self-released the single "Cardinal" with Kuiters, with whom he had previous collaborated on "Bits & Pieces." "Cardinal," the oldest track on Cybulski's current SoundCloud account, has received over 120,000 SoundCloud plays.[14] The single is described by NEST HQ as having "savory, patterned synth stabs and elating chords" and "sunny-day-worry-free vibes."[15]

On November 11, 2015, Cybulski released a remix of "The Touch" by KOLAJ. The remix, which was his first, has gained over 200,000 plays on SoundCloud since its release.[16] Run The Trap describes the remix as being "futuristic, uplifting, beautiful."[17]

2016: Popular remixes[edit]

On January 6, 2016, Cybulski released his remix of "Renaissance" by Steve James (feat. Clairity). The remix has since gained over 2.8 million SoundCloud plays, and is the most-played track on his current SoundCloud account.[18] NEST HQ says of the remix that "kid's treatment of Clairity's vocals paves the way for an emotional getaway."[19] EDMTunes describes the remix as "absolutely soaring," with "impeccable attention to detail, akin to the likes of Zedd or Madeon."[20] Run The Trap says of the remix that "kid slams a slight trapiness into the overpowering synth soundscape."[21] Months later, on April 8, the remix would be featured on Steve James' remix package for Renaissance, released through Ultra Music, alongside other remixes of the song from ARMNHMR, Myles Travitz, and Paxel.[22]

On January 29, 2016, Cybulski released a remix of "This Ain't Over" by Alex Newell on Big Beat Records. The remix has received over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud.[23] Run The Trap describes the remix as having "a delicate chord progression that explodes into a grungy half-time breakdown."[24] The remix was featured on Newell's This Ain't Over (Remixes) EP, alongside remixes from Odd Mob, TKDJS, Autolaser, and PVC.[25]

On March 25, 2016, Cybulski released a remix of "Cliffs Edge" by Hayley Kiyoko. The remix has amassed 700,000 SoundCloud plays.[26] Your EDM describes the remix as having "a colossal rush of layered, future bass synth alongside impossibly deep stings of a buzzing bass."[27] NEST HQ says that the remix contains "a piano-driven intro that lulls the listener into tranquility, a chorus and drum combination that climaxes into a lead driven by powerful and melodic synths, and an outro that uses a modulated-bassline to bid us farewell."[28] Run The Trap says of the remix that "bringing a bubbly build up to Kiyoko's airy vocals, k?d drops the song into a deep and electrifyingly dark future bass break."[29]

Cybulski released a remix of "Fallen" (feat. Desirée Dawson) by ARMNHMR on April 5, 2016 on Far East Movement's record label, brednbutter. The remix has gained over 500,000 plays on SoundCloud.[30] The remix is described by Run The Trap as "a certified trap banger with playful future bass synths, epic builds and massive drops."[31] Days later on April 13, Cybulski released a remix of "Red Lips" (feat. Sam Bruno) by GTA. The remix has gained 400,000 SoundCloud plays.[32] Run The Trap describes the remix as having "a cascade of future bass beats."[33]

Less than two weeks after "Red Lips," Cybulski released a remix of "What You Need" by The Weeknd on April 26.[34] The remix has over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud.[35] On May 3, 2016, Cybulski released a remix of Doin' It Right by Daft Punk. The remix has amassed 2.5 million SoundCloud plays.[36] Your EDM describes the remix as "a stunning, innovative future bass flip."[37] Run The Trap calls the remix "a delicious bootleg...with an overload of synths and [Cybulski's] typical take on modern future bass music."[38]

On May 23, 2016, Cybulski released his first self-released solo single: "Somewhere Far Away From Here," featuring singer Lolaby. The release has gained over 900,000 plays on SoundCloud since its release.[39] NEST HQ says "the track is a delicate mixture of synthpop and retro elements that, at its core, feels reminiscent of Porter Robinson's Worlds.[40] Your EDM says that Cybulski "mimics the soaring, emotional tone of Porter Robinson, managing to capture feelings of euphoria and an awareness of large-scale space.[41] Run The Trap says "K?d builds the track into an explosion of future bass synths that give off Porter Robinson vibes."[42] Earmilk describes the single as "an epic sonic journey," with a "jarring jump to discordant synths that paints a bizarre nostalgic emotion within listeners, and speaks to both love and loss. Tugging between feelings of warmth and sorrow, the arpeggios induce a puzzling tension."[43] Just weeks after "Somewhere Far Away," Cybulski released another solo single, "Show Me," this time featuring vocalist/rapper Rahn Harper, on June 14.[44] The single has over 500,000 SoundCloud plays.[45] Run The Trap says that the release has "a silky grind and air of romanticism, unique to the previous works of these two up and comers."[46]

On June 28, 2016, Cybulski released the single "Amaretto" as a collaboration with LUCA LUSH.[47] The track has gained over 500,000 plays on SoundCloud.[48] Two weeks later, on July 11, Cybulski released a remix of "Elevated" by RKCB.[49] The remix has 400,000 SoundCloud plays.[50] NEST HQ describes the remix as "a picture that looks into your past, present, and future."[51] On July 20, Cybulski released a remix of "Youth" by Manila Killa, featuring Satica. The remix, which has gained over 1 million plays on SoundCloud,[52] was featured on Manila Killa's Youth (Remixes) alongside a remix from Qrion.[53] Run The Trap says that Cybulski "takes the record to euphoric new heights."[54] Just seven days after "Youth," Cybulski released yet another remix, this one of "Happy" by Annabel Jones. This remix has over 500,000 SoundCloud plays.[55] Run The Trap describes the remix as "a future bass masterpiece," with "an absolutely massive anthemic drop."[56]

On August 8, 2016, Cybulski released the single "Discover", featuring RKCB, on record label PRMD Records. The single has gained over 1 million plays on SoundCloud since its release.[57] The track was premiered by Billboard, which described it as having “a space-traveling romance vibe.”[58] Your EDM says the song has "layer atop layer of shifting and textured soundscapes shaped by RKCB’s skily-smooth R&B infuenced vocals."[59] The song's lyric video is described by Run The Trap as having a "surreal trippy vibe" with "atmospheric shots of clouds and stars."[60]

Cybulski released a remix of "4AM" by Huntar on August 22, 2016. The remix has gained over 600,000 SoundCloud plays.[61] YourEDM described it as "a brilliantly thorough concept,"[62] while Run The Trap says that Cybulski "transforms this song into a war cry that pushes your sound system and your mind."[63] On September 15, he released the single "Birth of the Universe," which has since gained 1.2 million SoundCloud plays.[64] Your EDM describes the song's drop as "a cinematic masterpiece that conjures images of shooting stars and galaxies far, far away."[65] Run The Trap describes the single as having "an entire musical landscape that is incredibly vivid and filled with positive vibes."[66] He released another single, "Forgotten" on October 6, 2016. This track, described by Run The Trap as "a laidback slow-jam,"[67] has received over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud.[68]

On October 26, 2016, Cybulski released the single "Mortem", which has gained over 200,000 SoundCloud plays.[69] Your EDM says that the song has a "dark, haunting theme."[70] Less than two weeks later, on November 7, Cybulski released a remix of "Sad Machine" by Porter Robinson. The remix has received over 1.2 million plays on SoundCloud.[71] Your EDM says that the remix "artfully picks all the key elements from 'Sad Machine' and transforms them into a new wonderful creation,"[72] while Run The Trap describes the remix as an "emotional roller coaster of sound."[73]

Cybulski released a remix of "We Are Your Friends" by Justice on November 29, 2016. The remix has gained over 1.2 million SoundCloud plays since its release.[74] Your EDM describes the remix as "a remix for the ages", "combining the classic French house sound with a modern electro house tinge."[75]
