I'm typing this mostly because I hate seeing my name in red.

My user name, Ericthefred, comes from my first name, Eric, and a nickname I wore as a kid, 'Fred', which derives from my surname. Being Norwegian-American and proud of my Viking heritage (although unable to explain why exactly we Norskies, who tend to be Lutheran, also tend to be proud of having ancestors who were bloodthirsty pagans bent on destroying the Christian world,) I took on a user name reminiscent of that great Norwegian, Eric the Red (so great he got kicked out of Norway).

I am an electrical engineer working in the field of semiconductor design for a major semiconductor manufacturer. I have many hobbyist interests, including writing sci-fi (I use the same user name on writing.com; check my stuff out), writing and performing music (started out as a music major,) history and language (semi-fluent in several, including Japanese and French, but being ADHD, I never stick to one long enough to truly master it.)

I shall hold myself duty-bound to come back and wikify this user page at a later date. Right now I'm researching something.
