Exultate Chamber Singers in 2018

The Exultate Chamber Singers is a choral group based in Toronto, Canada.

The group was founded in 1981 by John Tuttle, and has been known for sensitive, precise singing, richness of tone, and blended sound throughout a wide dynamic range. The choir is enriched not only by the excellent musicianship of its members but also by their varied academic and professional backgrounds. Together they form a passionate, committed ensemble with a wide-ranging repertoire.

The choir was founded and led for 30 years by conductor and organist John Tuttle and has since been under the direction of Dr. Karen Grylls (2011-2012), Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt (2013-2018), and its current artistic director, Dr. Mark Ramsay (2018- ) .

In 2019 Exultate was awarded first place in the chamber choir division of the 2019 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, re-affirming the choir’s strong reputation for excellence as a three-time winner of the coveted Healey Willan Grand Prize at the CBC National Radio Competition.

The choir is also proud to have been selected as one of only 11 choirs (from among 89 applicants) to perform as a spotlight choir at PODIUM, Canada’s national choral conference and festival in Montreal in May of 2020.[1]

In addition to presenting its annual concert series, Exultate has made regular guest appearances around Ontario, including the Colours of Music Festival and Georgian Music Series in Barrie. Exultate has collaborated with dozens of artists including The Tenors, DaCapo Chamber Choir, and Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir. The choir has released five albums and has enjoyed airplay on CBC Radio.
