Vesyegonsky Museum of Local history

The Vesyegonsky Museum of Local history named after A.A. Vinogradov is a museum in the city of Vesyegonsk, Tver region, dedicated to archeology on the territory of the Vesyegonsky district, local history and pre-revolutionary history of the city.

Since 1978 the museum is a branch office of the Tver State United Museum (TSUM).

History creating of museum[edit]

The museum was established in 1919 during the period of nationalization by the Soviet government of cultural values and household items from landlords' estates.

In 1939 and in 1954, the museum was closed due to the construction of the Rybinsk reservoir. But already in 1967 The Vesyegonsky museum was recreated and began its scientific activity.

The museum is named after its founder Alexander Alexandrovich Vinogradov, who was a professional archaeologist, historian and public figure, local historian, organizer and head of museums in Vesyegonsk and Gorskaya secondary school, honored teacher of the RSFSR school, author of works on archeology and history of Vesyegonsky district, as well as a collector of folklore.

Exposition[edit]

The exposition presents archaeological materials from the excavations in which A.A. Vinogradov participated, items of noble culture, items from the personal library of Fyodor Izmailovich Rodichev.

The pre-revolutionary history of the city is represented in the exposition by a large collection of ethnographic materials.

Another exposition of the museum "From Vesyegonsk to Florida" is dedicated to a zemstvo figure and a native of Vesyegonsky county — Peter Alekseevich Dementiev.

The museum has a permanent exhibition "Symbols of the city of Vesyegonsk" ("The Museum of the River Cancer"), as well as other temporary exhibitions, such as the exhibition of decorative and applied art "Vesyegonsky patterns".
