Krasnokholmsky Museum of Local history is a museum located in the city of Krasny Kholm, Tver region. It is dedicated to the archeology and ethnography of the Krasnokholmsky district, as well as to the famous natives of the city.

Since the 1980s, it has been one of the branches of the Tver State United Museum.

History of creating museum[edit]

The museum is located in the historical center of the city of Krasny Kholm and was founded by N.N. Sokolov in 1964 as a public one.

It is located in a two-storey wooden building (mansion) of the late XIX century. Previously, it was the home of the local zemstvo doctor L.A. Myasnikov.

Exposition[edit]

The museum's exposition presents: a unique collection of battle axes, hammers, objects of the Fatyanovo archaeological culture of the Bronze Age, a collection of Carboniferous-Paleogene fossils, copper coins, ethnographic exhibits that reflect the life of Krasnokholm peasants in the XVIII-XX centuries.

Another part of the museum's exposition consists of materials of the participation of natives of the city in the Great Patriotic War.

A separate interest for visitors is a collection of documents, photographs, personal belongings of natives of the city of Krasny Holm. Among them are: the Myasnikov family (a zemstvo doctor and an academic cardiologist), the artist P.P. Chistyakov (mentor of many outstanding painters), opera singer, Honored Artist of the RSFSR N.N. Butyagin, as well as documents on the history of education in the city and district.

The museum presents a collection of icons of the Soviet period from the collection of I.D. Marashov.

Local history lessons for schoolchildren are regularly held in the halls of the museum.
