'Experimental work of Gregor Mendel on genes.Gregor Mendel collected both tall and short garden peas and cross pollinated them. Gregor Mendel removed the stamen (male reproductive organ) from the anther of the flower of the short peas to prevent self pollination . He then cross pollinated the short peas with the tall peas and planted the seeds from them. All the peas produced from the tall and short peas are tall. In the next season he allowed self pollination of the new tall pea plants. The planted self pollinated pea plants in new tall pea plants produced 3/4 of the peas to be tall and 1/4 were short despite the fact that it was only tall pea plants were self pollinated and planted. Mendel repeated self pollination on all the peas in stage three . The shot peas produced all short peas, one third produced all tall peas while the two third produced both tall and short peas while two third produced both tall and short peas in ratio 3:1.
