Simon Degroot
[edit]Simon Degroot (b.1981) is an Australian artist. He works primarily in painting and illustration.
Simon works in a narrative style. His artworks are about personal development, exploring the tensions between self-reflection and an exterior presentation of self. Characters sometimes appear in his work, images that continue as symbols in other works. These characters and childlike motifs illustrate a somewhat visual diary, a coded language of images that are used to represent certain ideas, people or events.
Simon's work can sometimes be described as containing graffiti elements. He employs strong imagery influenced by graphic design, architectural structures, popular culture, packaging and advertising media. He expands a traditional studio practice to include murals, merchandised products, video and print media.
