Description[edit]

Platform[edit]

The submarine shape is mainly based on DCN-Navantia Scorpene (Scorpion in french) class design with larger and wider hull and larger control surfaces.S80A is around 30 percent larger than the largest submarine in Scorpene family (which is Scorpene AM-2000 AIP) from which develops, and "below the flesh" are more important diferences;AIP system is completely new, being based on an Ethanol reformer plant to obtain hydrogen, used to feed a 300 kW fuel cell. This is a key issue to understand the larger diameter of S80A when compared to Scorpene.
