P45 is a modern ska band, formed in 2011 and disbanded in 2016. The band reformed in 2021 to perform and record.

Original band launch

[edit]
Jack Kendall and Rob Sigston

Lead singer Jack Kendall formed the original band with guitarist Neil Reed. Within a short time the performing lineup was completed with the addition of Rob Sigston (bass), Joe Green (saxophone) and Dustin Burgess (drums).

During this period the band played as support to a number of well-known acts including Chas & Dave, Madness, Bad Manners and the Bruce Foxton band 'From The Jam'.

Ska for Heroes

[edit]

As part of an initiative in 2011 by frontman Buster Bloodvessel from the ska band Bad Manners the band contributed material to the album 'Ska for Heroes' to raise funds in connection with the UK charity Help for Heroes.[1]

Album release

[edit]

During 2012 Sigston worked on the original song ideas to prepare the debut album.

After attracting attention from a number of UK labels the band signed with 54-46 Records Ltd. The debut album 'Stories To Be Told' was released in February 2013.[2]

Profile boost

[edit]

During 2013 the band performed extensively and made a point of appearing in smaller venues closer to home in East London and Essex.[3]

The highlight of the 2013 season was the appearance at the Santa Pod Scooter Festival where the band performed to an estimated crowd of 3000.[4]

According to Kendall, Chas Hodges of the pop rock duo Chas & Dave coined the phrase 'Cockney Opera' to describe the emerging character of the band.

Relaunch

[edit]

In late 2021 Kendall and Sigston relaunched the band together with former touring members and new musicians. Live performances followed at various venues in and around London including a major ska event at the Dublin Castle, Camden in January 2022.
