Florian’s interest in climate architecture and in collaboration with other universities and research institutes lead to the development of a calculation tool to estimate the cooling capacity of cities. The tool is used to calculate the impact of design features, such as green facades and roofs and its effect on reducing the total energy demand of a building to a fraction of its normal requirement and therefore saving the client further money. This in-turn helps to reduce the city’s “heat island effect” and creates buildings that are efficient and long lasting. This new approach towards architecture reverses the current trend of creating concrete desserts by instead bringing back the beauty of cities and their natural habitats that allows all species to live together in harmony.
