A slice through the Molehill cake

Molehill cake (Maulwurfkuchen in German, Krtkův dort in Czech) is a cake with German origin.[1] The cake is commonly served during birthdays. The cake is composed of a chocolate corpus, cream filling, and bananas. The top of the cake is sprinkled with pieces of the corpus giving the cake its signature look: a molehill.

Preparation and alternatives[edit]

The cake's corpus is usually created with flour, chocolate pudding powder, suggar, baking powder, oil, and eggs. The cream filling is based on cream, gellatin, sugar, quark, and dark chocolate pieces. The cake is prepared in the following order; (1) the corpus is baked and carved out, (2) the corpused is filled with the cream filling and sliced bananas, and (3) the cake is sprinkled with the previously carved out corpus.[2]

There are multiple alternatives of the cake, e.g., an "inverse" version (with a light corpus and dark cream filling), strawberry version (substituing the chocolate pudding powder with strawbery pudding poweder), and many others.

The cake can be made from a premade cooking mixture.
