Island Shanghai, or the Isolated Island period of Shanghai,[1][2] referred to the foreign-controlled areas of Shanghai that was surrounded by the Japanese occupation forces during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It lasted from the end of the Battle of Shanghai in late 1937, to the beginning of the Pacific War in late 1941.[3]
