Khaya's Music Journey[edit]

Khaya Mthethwa started playing drums at a very tender age, as he was growing his music career he went for voice coaching and as dedicated as he is he attended all sessions religiously. Khaya is also a member of Joyous Celebration spiritual singing group, and as part of this group, he does the keyboard playing, guitarist,composer,worshiper and their church music director. all this can prove that he is multi talented in all aspects of the music industry. Khaya Mthethwa has shared the stage with the likes of Mthuzi Namba, Israel USA, Thulani Shezi, Joyous Celebration and many more. as the auditions for South Africa Idols season 8 2012 started, Khaya became one of the contestant.[1]

Khaya Becomes First Black South Africa Idol Winner[edit]

Khaya won South Africa Idols 2012,and he became the first black to win the competition ever since it was introduced. Idols presenter Proverb announced that they had over 3 million votes casted. Khaya was in the top 2 with Melissa Allison. South Africa Idols judges Randell Abrahams, Unathi Msengana and Gareth Cliff they all gave Khaya a standing aviation. Khaya thanked everyone who supported him and he cannot wait to see platinuim sales for his single "Move". Khaya took home with him a prize package worth almost 1 million including a recording contract with Universal Music South Africa, plus a Ford Fiesta.[2][3]
