Aric Shafrir

Sgan Aluf Aric Shafrir (Hebrew: אָָָָרִיֵה שַׁפְרִיר; born Aric Shaposhnik, 18 December 1938) is a retired Chief of Medicine in the Israeli Navy and hospital administrator.

Early life and education

Born in Haifa, Mandatory Palestine, to Bessarabian Jewish parents who fled persecution aboard the SS Bulgaria[1] from Constanța to Haifa port in 1935, he is the eldest of 3 sons. At the age of 15, he started volunteering at Magen David Adom for three years until he finished high school in 1956[2].

In the summer of 1954, he completed the paramedics course in the Gadna, Training Base 10. Following his graduation from Gimnasia Bialik, Shafrir was accepted for an academic Atuda in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he studied medicine for 8 years until 1962 and became a

Following his retirement from the IDF in 1980 at the age of 42, Shafrir was tasked by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs with multiple missions in Africa. These missions involved establishing and managing hospitals.
