Mauricio Rosencof (born June 30, 1933) is an Uruguayan writer and political activist. He was born in the Department (Province) of Florida, Uruguay to Polish-Jewish immigrants.

Rosencof began his career as a journalist, and developed into a celebrated playwright, poet and novelist. He become politically active, founding the Communist Youth Union and later becoming a leader in the National Liberation Movement, also called the Tupamaros. He was arrested in 1972, was brutally tortured, and sentenced to 13 years in solitary confinement in a two-meter-by-two-meter cell. He was released in 1985. He currently lives in Montevideo.
