Personal info: I'm a twentysomething Indian from Kolkata, though I currently live in Mumbai.
I'm a big fan of '80s/'90s (and occasionally from other decades) underground rock, hence a vast majority of my edits will be on such pages. The articles to many of these albums regarded by both critics and musicians as "important" are often stubs or poorly written: in fact, I've come across a few that read like advertisements. No references, no description of the music contained within and, most importantly, nothing of its importance/influence (if the album in question is so).
Though he's practically a meme by now, in my opinion Piero Scaruffi was right when he wrote of the disparity in representation between the works of dinosaur acts like The Beatles and Pink Floyd (who even have pages for non-single songs) and more underground bands that are just as influential or acclaimed (like This Heat, Unwound, Wipers, The Drones and literally countless others[*]) on this website. I intend to undo that disparity a bit, or at least do my part. These pages don't have to be super-detailed or lengthy, just informative.
[*](I was the one who edited the pages of the bands mentioned, many of them before I had a Wikipedia account.)
Edit (March 10th 2019): I also occasionally edit pages related to parallel cinema & those of other Indian films/documentaries.
Edit (June 30th 2020): Seeing as I've been noticed on Reddit for my work on A Laughing Death in Meatspace (a page that I'd created), here's a few other things I'd like to add/mention here:
- Thank you so much! I've always loved reading up on (relatively) obscure albums on the internet. I initially did it out of the same sense of nerdiness that drives any fan, but I later figured that it could be put to good use on what is probably the most comprehensive information database of our time (especially since it seems like no one else is even remotely interested in fleshing them out).
- Given that it's a never-ending process, I'm always looking to improve on these pages (whenever I find the time, that is, given my job) so if you have ANY inputs on ANYTHING related to them - be you a Wiki editor or no - then PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
- If you're a Wiki editor who's similarly interested in underground punk-related/experimental rock albums, then PLEASE get in touch so we may collaborate.
- My Reddit and Rate Your Music accounts are both named thisheat76 (after my favourite band of all time and the year they formed). Gablinanish (pronounced "gahbleen", a (dumb, I know) nickname given to me by those on mom's side of the family tree) is also the name of my first ever RYM account that I still use, albeit rarely.
