The first is that you must be a Kentucky native and must have lived in Kentucky long enough to have participated in the sports he/she is being considered for induction. The next requirement is that you must be a longtime Kentucky resident, meaning that you have spent a majority of your lifetime in Kentucky. Another requirement is they have played college sports in Kentucky and made some type of contribution in the state beyond his/her playing years. And finally, the age requirement for athletes is the first year after retirement, or 40 years of age if still playing. You could also be a coach for a sport to become an inductee as well. A requirement for coaches is that they have coached high school or college sports in Kentucky for an extended period of time (decades) and is retired, unless the tenure exceeds three decades. The age requirement for a coach/administrator is a minimum age requirement of 50.   All of these requirements are tough to meet, but this means that the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame is selective and top tier. Induction Process

[edit]

Even if you possess all of the requirements, others have a say in if you should be inducted into the Kentucky Hall of Fame. The public actually has a big say and is encouraged to nominate individuals. All nominations are reviewed by a screening committee that is comprised of sports experts and community volunteers. The selection committee is comprised of sports media throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The committee will review the list of candidates and vote for their top five using a 10-7-5-3-1 point system. This lengthy process is only the beginning of the journey to becoming an inductee. [2]
