Garrett Jones was born in 1929 but still edits his own webpage at [1]. He began his professional career as a missionary but left the church in 1966 because he no longer wanted to advocate a credal faith - or any dogmatic ideology. This makes him an unlikely candidate for the designation 'religious figure' which appears below this entry. He has been a lecturer in the United Theological College, Bangalore, India, 1960-65; Ormskirk College of Education , UK, 1966-72; the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, 1972-83. He has written Faiths of the World, (Holmes McDougall, ISBN 0-7157-1426-0, 1976). This was a secondary school text book which broke new ground by including modern ideologies such as communism and existentialism. Tales and Teachings of the Buddha, a comprehensive study of the Jataka stories in relation to the Pali Canon as a whole(First edition, Allen and Unwin, ISBN 0-04-294104-0, 1979. Second Revised Edition, Cybereditions, ISBN 1-877275-21-2, 2001). This is now regarded as a standard work. Alfred and Arthur: an historic friendship, (Authors on Line, ISBN 0-7552-0055-1, 2001) is the story of the friendship between the poet Tennyson and his undergraduate friend, Arthur Hallam. Ourtopia, (Authors on Line, ISBN 0-7552-0132-9,2004, now also available in a Persian translation (ISBN 964-372-118-3), is a topical book, updated at the author's website, where extensive unpublished writing about the author's bisexual experience and outlook can also be found.
