Gayle Katherine Leslie is a writer and performer trained in New York City. Most recently her first book Dwelling in the Vast Divine.1, the first volume of the Dwelling in the Vast Divine: A Serialized Memoir, was published in February of 2014. Performances of her work will be launched this year.
Early Life
[edit]Leslie was born in Houston, Texas in 1960. She graduated from Spring High School outside Houston in 1978 and from college at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 1982. In 1984 she moved to New York City to attend Circle-in-the-Square Acting School and has resided there since then.
Professional Life
[edit]Leslie is a political writer, most recently publishing an opinion piece, "Kamala Harris vs Drinking Heavily and Waiting to Die," that set post debate conversation on fire. More political articles are currently in development.
She is also a screenwriter now developing a pilot for a limited series -- "The True Buddhist Lesbian Story" -- drawn on her own books.
Her first book, "Dwelling in the Vast Divine.1," is in re-issue.
Leslie is the author of Dwelling in the Vast Divine: A Serialized Memoir, a compelling Southern memory of a family as seen through the eyes of a child who found it safest to “hide and watch” the hapless adults around her as they succumbed to the chaos they’d created. Operating on primal impulses the family existed from one sordid crisis to the next. Luckily, for readers and listeners, as a grown woman the family “observer” developed into a self-aware, witty story-teller, telling the tale of her slow-motion escape to a new life in New York with painful clarity and a keen sense of irony. The books are a disturbing, but achingly funny narrative.
Also a performer of her own work at open events in New York City, as well as collaborating with other artists and entrepreneurs.
Gayle Leslie has also consulted to personalize clients' development and marketing strategies while she strives to take her own best advice.
