Appearance
Godnapping is the theft or removal of cult images by a conquering force.
Historiography
[edit]The term godnap was coined in 1991 by archaeologist Alasdair Livingstone in a paper presented at the 38th Rencontre Internationale Assyriologique, and further popularized after publication in 1997.[1][2] However, the Neo-Assyrian Empire's theft of cult images had been discussed at length by earlier authors, such as by Mordechai Cogan in 1974.[3]
