Notes

[edit]
A At every Illinois-Ohio State game, the Illibuck is awarded to the winner of the previous game. Illinois is currently in possession of the Illibuck despite having lost to Ohio State on November 15, 2008, in Champaign.[14][15]
B The Slab of Bacon was lost following the 1943 game at Memorial Stadium in Minneapolis. During the celebrations following the Gopher victory, the customary ceremonial exchange did not occur because the officials involved could not find each other on the field. Minnesota coach George Hauser later refused to accept the trophy in the locker room. The Slab of Bacon went missing until it was found in 1994 at Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium, where it is currently on display. Minnesota and Wisconsin now play for Paul Bunyan's Axe.[16][17]
C Illinois and Northwestern agreed to retire the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk in 2008 as part of the University of Illinois' efforts to remove Native American imagery from its athletics program. Though Northwestern won the final trophy game, the schools had previously decided that the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk would remain in Evanston regardless of the game's outcome. The schools are expected to create a new trophy for the 2009 football season.[18]
