Stella Chioma Nwizu (born 21 October 1961 in Nnewichi, Nnewi North, Anambra State) is a Nigerian teacher and researcher (of both youths and adults).[1]

Education

Stella Nwizu attended Christ Church Primary School Owerri in Imo State. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education Economics in 1986, her Master’s degrees in 1993 and 1997 respectively. She earned her Doctorate degree from the department of Adult Education and Extra-Mural Studies of the same university with emphasis on Extension and Distance Education. Nwizu has been engaged in various projects relating to quality education for sustainable development and this has fetched her over 45 papers in various learned journals. She has also participated in and presented papers at both national and international conferences. Stella has found love for such research areas as women’s education, resource development and evaluation in distance education, designing extension education programmes, information communication technology in education, non-formal/ literacy education, as well as human resource development.[2] In 2009, she was employed as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Adult Education and Extra-Mural Studies.

Nwizu majors in Distance Education, Adult Education and International Scene, Designing Extension Education Programs, Innovation in Adult education, Financing Adult education, Economics of Adult Education, Designing Instructional Materials in Distance Education, Comparative Studies in Distance Education, and Administration of Distance Education. This different areas have fetched her notable reputations among which is the grant of the "Extension Roles of the University of Nigeria in Educational Development of Rural Women".[3]

Academics activities

Stella Nwizu is a professor of the department of Adult Education and Extra-Mural Studies in the University of Nigeria Nsukka. She is heavily involved in teaching, supervision, research and community services from the Department of Adult Education and Extra-Mural Studies. She has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has also supervised a good number of undergraduate and postgraduate research. Stella has taught many courses in Adult education, some of which are as follows:

  • Distance Education
  • Adult Education and International Scene
  • Designing Extension Education Programmes
  • Innovation in Adult education
  • Financing Adult education
  • Economics of Adult Education
  • Designing Instructional Materials in Distance Education
  • Comparative Studies in Distance Education
  • Administration of Distance Education[4]

Prof Nwizu has also been engaged in various projects relating to quality education for sustainable development. Her research interest covers a wide range of education and social issues, designing extension education programmes, material development and evaluation in distance education, literacy and non-formal education, information communication technology in education, women's education and human resource development. Among her most recent research work are the work on “Attaining the millennium development goals (MDGs) in Nigeria through distance education (DE): opportunities and needed reforms” which she published in the 1st number of the 4th volume of the Journal of Adult Education and Development in 2010; “Networking for lifelong learning and development in Africa: Implications for distance learning technologies” in the Journal of Nigerian Educational Research Association, volume 15 number 1 in 2010; “Contributions and Future Directions of Literacy Extension Programmes of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)” in the Journal of Adult Education and Development, volume 5 number 1 in 2011 and more recently, "Application of Value Chain Analysis in Sustainable Management of Tertiary Distance Education Programmes in Nigeria" which she published in the International Journal of Management and Sustainability visible in 104 to 113 pages in the 5th number of the 4th volume in 2015 among others [5]


Professional membership

Stella Chioma Nwizu is a Member of Community and Adult Education Research Society of Nigeria (CARESON) and CARESON Journal of Development. She is also the Associate Fellow of the African Institute for Applied Economics (AIAE). Among other professional organization which Prof. Nwizu belongs are Association for Promoting Quality Education in Nigeria. (APQEN), Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Gender Association in Science, Arts and Technology (GASAT), Nigerian Educational Research Association (NERA) and the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS)[6]
