Abby Norman aka Margaret Ellen Nesselroad
Abby Normal was a stage personification of Margaret Ellen (Nesselroad) (Duffy) Knupp, known as Margaret Knupp to her friends. Margaret was born at home, in Sherman, Jackson County, West Virginia, on September 5th, 1932 to Ira Hartzel Nesselroad and his beautiful and sassy bride, Samary Ellen Jones. Margaret had 5 brothers and 1 sister. Margaret brothers are Charles Hubert, William Hartzell, John Edward, James Frederick, and Joseph Lee, and her sister Martha Irene. Joseph is the only surviving sibling.
Margaret lost her Mother at the tender age of 13, and her Father remarried a beautiful young lady, Goldie Marie Fleak and they had 3 sons, John, James, and Joseph are her half brothers.
Around the same time period Margaret gave her life to God, and remained a Christian til she died at the age of 75, in 2007. Margaret had her 1st nervous breakdown at the age of 13 shortly after her Mother died. Over the years, Margaret had many more breakdowns and suffered from depression the rest of her life. To help overcome her depression she turned to writing poems, then she taught herself to play the piano, and from there she also mastered several more instruments. She also liked to sing and had a few groups she formed, and sang in a couple of local church quartets hat traveled and sang, one being the Rose of Sharon, started by Reverend Joe and Maxine Emerick, Chuck Emerick, Gary Brookover, and sometimes with Margaret.
Margaret 1st married a Thomas Delbert Duffy in 1953 and had 2 children Thomas Delbert Duffy, Jr., and a daughter, (name withheld due to her privacy issues). Margaret's family to date includes 2 children, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. 2nd, Margaret married a Russell Herman Knupp, they were together over 45 years and had no children together.
The history of the character of "Abby Normal", a person who loved God and the Holy Bible, and quite often got the scripture a little confused in her mind and often gave the preacher a very amusing and difficult time as he tried to straighten her out on these issues. Abby Normas is a substitute version for "abnormal", and this was my Mother's way of working through her depression.
To be fair, Margaret could quote the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Margaret was also an ordained minister and evangelist. Margaret studied the scriptures all the time. Margaret also studied every subject she could find. She was a very interesting person to know. She was good to everyone she met, and to be fair, she also had some problems due to her depression that caused her to have issues with some family members and some of her friends. Margaret was always organizing Bible studies and teaching others about God's Word. She would use commentaries, the Greek Bible, and other Bible scholars and rarely used her personal opinions to teach with.
Margaret was a poet, a songwriter, musician, minister, Mother, Grandmother, and a Great-Grandmother. She was a truly remarkable person and has a colorful ancestry filled with fascinating characters, royalty, and even Kings and Queens. There are several Knights from several orders of knighthood and even some who were beheaded in battle and that were in the Holy Crusades. There are several ministers and many high officials.
