LowFat (band)

[edit]

LowFat is seven piece group (although this number sometimes fluctuates) based out of the San Francisco bay area that draws primarily from funk, reggae and hip-hop styles. Their sound reflects influences from The Meters to Sublime.

Background

[edit]

Started by front man Chris Uiterwijk in 2001, the group was originally a studio project for his independent record label Rizla Records. Uiterwijk soon realized that his idea for a band which fuses these sounds would have a possibility of success as a performance group, especially in San Francisco's diverse nightlife scene. Since the group's debut album, Bar Wisdom, in 2005 they have performed in many venues throughout Northern California.

Instrumentation

[edit]

The instrumentation of the group is similar to many big band funk groups. Instrumentation includes a singer/guitar, bass, small horn section, backup vocals, percussion, and drums.
