Isabella Beaton (1870-1929) was a concert pianist and composer. She was born in Grinnell, Iowa in 1870. Her musical talent was was apparent at a very early age. She was a concert pianist for Iowa College, later named Grinnell College, by the age of 12. After graduating from the Iowa College Conservatory of Music, she studied with instructors in Berlin and Paris. She received her Master of Arts degree from Western Reserve University in 1903. She performed concerts at various locations in Europe and America an was an instructor at the Cleveland School of Music. In 1910 she founded the Beaton School of Music[1] in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the director of the school from 1910-16, performing 20 piano recitals annually in the region[2].


She died on January 19, 1929 at the state hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She is buried in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa[3].
