Norte Cartel is a hardcore band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

History

[edit]

Norte Cartel was formed in April 2006 by former members of Rio de Janeiro band Solstício. While still in search of a bass player, a demo with three songs was recorded. A bass player was found soon after, but exchanged for Julio Longo (ex-Serial Killer) after only five gigs. Over time, gigs were expanded from Rio de Janeiro to all of Brazil and later to the rest of South America. In 2008 a split cd with Argentinian hardcore band Otra Salida was recorded. After this release Marcelo Fernandes was exchanged for former Confronted singer Felipe Chehuan. In 2010 the band recorded its first full length album which was released worldwide.

Style

[edit]

Norte Cartel play mid tempo hardcore similar to New York hardcore, meaning they mix metal elements into their music and use shouting as singing technique. The lyrics are kept in Brazilian Portuguese and often have a subcultural self-reference, dealing with the hardcore scene and its values. The band members describe themselves as unpolitical but refuse to perform with right-wing extremist bands.[1]
