This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
First screen "Thank you for your interest in contributing to Wikipedia! Before starting the process of creating an article, you can get the hang of things by first editing in your sandbox. It's a great way to practice your editing skills without affecting live articles. If you need some help along the way, check out our editing guide. "
This is OK
Second screen: "Referencing Your article will be rejected, unless you reference it properly. Remember to put the references next to the material you're citing. For example: ... "
This is OK, although I thought this needs to be shown above the draft edit box and not here...?
Third screen: "Common mistakes. There are a lot of common mistakes that are made with drafts. Here are a few you must watch out for: Writing about something you're close to 'Whether it is business, personal or otherwise, writing about topics that are close to you is discouraged as the article you will create may not be neutral.' Copy and pasting material 'You must write the article in your own words, or it may be deleted.' Overly promotional language 'Terms like "leading expert" and "ground-breaking technology" sound great when promoting a product, but they do not belong on Wikipedia. Let the facts speak for themselves.' - I'm not connected to the subject - I'm writing about something close to me - I'm paid to edit"
I'd think that 'do not copy paste' and 'do not write in promotional tone' are editing tips not for this wizard? I'd move them to the edit intro. I'd perhaps suggest to reword "I'm writing about something close to me" to say "I'm writing about something close to me (my business or myself)"...
Next screen: "COI Editing. Disclosing your relationship with the subject is important in both giving context and transparency with your edits. Additionally, it helps others assist you in making your content more suitable for Wikipedia. Here are the steps to disclose: ..."
This is confusing, I think many people may stop here. Why not use different preload templates for coi editors and non-coi editors? Just tag the article with a 'Draft COI' category.
Next screen: "When having either a business or personal relationship with a subject there's a few things to keep in mind: You can request an article 'It's improbable when having a conflict of interest to write in a way that doesn't favor the subject unduly. However, you can always request the article be written by someone else. This will prevent you from introducing an intrinsic bias into the article, since a neutral party will be writing the article.' You can also request edits [...] Stay transparent [...]"
Here I would not allow people to proceed. I would simply remove the 'next' button. I would suggest them to follow the "WP:RA" process as the only option. It would clear the draft queue from spam?
