The 2019–20 Southern Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2019, followed by the start of the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play started in late December 2019 and will end in February 2020, after which 12 member teams will participate in the 2020 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina. The tournament champion is guaranteed a selection to the 2020 NCAA Tournament.
