Sir Louis Antoine Aimé de Verteuil KCMG[1] (24 September, 1807–11 August, 1900) was a Trinidadian doctor, politician and public administrator.
De Verteuil was the first mayor of Port of Spain under its new charter in 1853.[2]: 54
Early life and education[edit]
De Verteuil was born in Trinidad, the son of Michel Julien de Verteuil, a French Royalist who had served with the British during the French Revolutionary Wars and taken art in the capture of Trinidad in 1797 and his wife Victoire Adelaide née Legendre de la Bretesque.[3]
In 1820 de Verteuil was sent to France where he was educated at the College of Juilly until 1825. After completing his studies there he worked as an instructor at the school until 1828 to repay the cost of his board.[3]
