Outline of proposed changes

[edit]
  • Provide slightly more detail in introductory section about the role of analgesic adjuvants in multimodal analgesia
    • Include discussion of the term "multimodal analgesia," maybe rename/add redirect from "multimodal analgesia"
  • Expand on each individual pharmacologic class, (proposed) mechanisms of pain relief, and indications/contraindications
  • Considering including other compounds that traditionally are not considered analgesic medications
    • Clonidine
    • Capsaicin
    • THC
  • Considering removing muscle relaxants (cyclobenzaprine/carisoprodol), since they are typically included in multimodal analgesic regimens and there is already some discussion in the pain management page.
    • Argument for: muscle relaxants are often first or second line for acute musculoskeletal pain
    • Argument against: muscle relaxants are primarily used for spasticity which may or may not come with pain, may not traditionally thought of as pain medications by the general public (but carisoprodol may be?)
      • If keeping, should also include discussion on other types of muscle relaxants like methocarbamol
    • Should at least combine into single entry/section of muscle relaxants
    • Leaning towards keeping and making a whole separate section on muscle relaxants since the focus of this article is probably "anything that isn't an opioid/tylenol/NSAID"
