Early Life and Education
[edit]Raymund Vincent Romualdez, popularly known as Raymund Romualdez, is a Filipino politician and public servant, currently serving as a member of the Tacloban City Council and the Chairman of Barangay 88. He is also the President of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Tacloban and Region 8. Raymund, son of Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, hails from the prominent Romualdez family, known for their extensive political and business influence in Leyte, the Eastern Visayas region, and the entire Philippines.
Political Career
[edit]Raymund Romualdez has been actively involved in local politics, holding multiple significant positions. He serves as a member of the Tacloban City Council and the Chairman of Barangay 88. Additionally, he is the President of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Tacloban and the entire Region 8. In these roles, he has been instrumental in passing resolutions aimed at improving infrastructure, promoting peace and order, and fostering local development.
Raymund is also known for his extensive work in community outreach. As the president of Liga ng mga Barangay Tacloban and Region 8 Chapter, he actively provides essential health services and distributes aid like wheelchairs and water pumps to indigent families through project BARANGAYAN in Tacloban City. He regularly conducts Liga General and Regional Assemblies to strengthen barangay ties regionally and promote collaboration among provincial chapter presidents in Region VIII .
During the devastating onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda, Raymund played a vital role in the relief operations and the very successful rise, rehabilitation, and redevelopment of Tacloban. His efforts were recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) with the “Raymund Romualdez Disaster Preparedness Pillar Award,” highlighting his effective contributions to disaster relief response, recovery, and continuous development of Tacloban City .
Community Involvement and Advocacy
[edit]Raymund Romualdez is the founder of Hiraya, a non-profit organization that supports the youth, the environment, and sports development. Hiraya focuses on youth and education programs, environmental preservation, and sports development. Through this organization, Raymund has initiated various community projects, including solar street lights, rehabilitation projects, reforestation, water distributions, and increased medical assistance.
Personal Life
[edit]Hon. Raymund Romualdez is married to Raissa “Rai” Tan, an entrepreneur who promotes ecotourism in the region. The couple shares a love for water sports and adventure. They have a strong bond built on mutual interests and a shared commitment to public service. Their wedding was an intimate celebration attended by close friends and family, including prominent figures like Philippine President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos .
Raymund’s wife, Raissa Tan-Romualdez, supports his initiatives and is known for her entrepreneurial ventures that promote the region’s ecotourism. Despite their busy schedules, the couple remains dedicated to their community and continues to work on various projects that benefit Tacloban and its residents .
