GEOLOGY OF KARSHI FCT

Karshi, which is part of the Basement Complex of North central Nigeria is located within the South Eastern part of Abuja. It is predominantly underlain by high grade metamorphic and igneous rocks of Precambrian age (600±50million years) generally trending SSW. These rocks consists of gneiss, migmatites, granites and schist, which outcrops along the western (Kupayi) margin of the area. The schist broadens North wards and attains a maximum development in the area. Their is little concentration of placer gold deposit. Granites mostly occupy the South eastern part of the area (Kurape Hill) while gneiss and migmatites dominate the main settlement. Most of the rocks are intruded by pegmatite. The topography of Karshi is rugged with high relief. In general, the rocks are highly sheared. Karshi is endowed with various industrial minerals of economic importance such as gneiss, granites, schist, laterite, sand and gravels. These minerals are use for building and construction purposes.
