Bourgogne Suite Maastricht
[edit]Bourgogne Suite Maastricht is the name of a French style "Hôtel particulier" located in ( Dutch ) Bourgognestraat 23 ,6221BV ( Bourgogne Street Nr.23 ) in the Wyck district, in the center of the Dutch city of Maastricht in The Netherlands.
Location
[edit]The street was largely constructed at the end of the nineteenth century as part of the residential development, located near Maastricht Station. The Bourgognestraat is a quiet residential street with varied buildings. The street has two national monuments ( Dutch: Rijksmonument ) and 27 municipal monuments ( Dutch : Gemeentelijk monument ) .The building, Bourgogne Suite Maastricht, in Bourgognestraat Nr. 23, is located in the upper part of the Bourgognestraat; between the streets Alexander Battalaan and Spoorweglaan.
The structure of the façade
[edit]Bourgogne Suite Maastricht was built in the year 1899. It has the most decorative façade of dark red brick with strongly contrasting white painted ornaments of artificial stone and stucco. The stucco above the door and the windows on the ground floor are particular richly profiled. The segmental arch fields above are filled with ornamental masonry. The (recently) painted black frames, front door and balcony enhance the contrast. The house has a centrally placed dormer with a brick gable and a round-arched window.
Function
[edit]The building was constructed as an one-family-house for upper middle class in 1899. Today the location houses an exclusive guesthouse. The name of the building, Bourgogne Suite Maastricht , was derived form the street name and location. The design, custom interior and renovation was carried out by a Scandinavian born architect in year 2003.
