Trace Fossil, Archeaonassa

Archaeonassa[edit]

Late Ediacaran Archaeonassa-type trace fossils are commonly preserved on the top surfaces of sandstone strata. [1] "Archaeonassa is a poorly known ichnogenus, originally described from the Cambrian of North America, which is a member of the Scolicia ’group’, but can be regarded as distinct from Scolicia"[2] Its know for being produced by invertebrates like arthropods and mollusks. Archaeonassa are a certain type of Cambrian trace fossil and are also shown as burrows. They are twisted about and are irregular in form.[3] "The flanking ridges are very well developed, and locally display an undulating morphology. In cross-sectional view the median groove commonly displays a V-shaped morphology."[1] They were origanlly compared to a base model but scientist found that they fell into a "taxonomic grey zone concerning its availability"[4]
