Helge Reumann[edit]

Helge Reumann (born in Uster, Switzerland in 1966) active as comic strip author, artist and designer. A demanding and influential author, Reumann teaches at the Haute École d'art et de design Genève [1].

Biography[edit]

Helge Reumann began his studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Geneva in 1985. After graduating in 1990, he created several studios, and in 1996, he attracted the attention of the curious: associated with Xavier Robel , he creates Elvis Studio, and gets noticed on several productions. Camions et Poursuite (published in 1998 and 2000) particularly distinguished him from a wave of young artists: beyond a few technical skills and a certain taste for graphic experimentation, Reumann created a universe, always in evolution, which will be further developed and refined. This universe is a description of a corrosive world, where hope is regularly shattered by political or religious fanaticism, obsessions from all sides: a chaos that would be so depressing if it was not so fascinating, the gaze of Reumann about our world becomes unabashedly disturbing. In 1998 he received the Federal Prize for Applied Arts in Bern, in 1999 he obtained the art grant from the Federal Office of Culture in Bern. And in 2002, he received the Töpffer Prize for Bagarre, Sexy Guns in 2014 and SUV in 2019. He lived in Montreal, made album covers (The Notwist, strom|morts and Choolers Division).

Obviously we note the experience of the Elvis Studio artwork-duet that was Elvis Road, gigantic and magnificent accordion-book (published by PipiFax from Zurich, then by Buenaventura Press for North America). Elvis Road is a hypnotic fresco (as a wonderful object/book), Xavier Robel and Helge Reumann have relayed one another every morning for a year, turning a collective exercise of wrist warming into an essential work of contemporary creation in illustration. This narrative exquisite corpse is a demonstration of a creative intensity that would deserve to be more exposed. The collective was dissolved in 2014.

Current work[edit]

Helge Reumann is dedicated to painting and installations with resin multiples. Working on a project put to sound by the Swiss experimental music group strom|morts entitled "LotW" (Land of the Warehouses). Comic book work continues with new book projects, regular publication in fanzines and in the cult comics review Kramers Ergot edited by Sammy Harkham.
