OMUTHIYA GWIIPUNDI BECAME A TOWN

[edit]Omuthiya is a well known, in the B1 main road between Tsumeb and Ondangwa, because travelers stop for refreshment and getting same thing like ‘meat’. It’s now a proclaimed town in 2007. The Omuthiya Town Council was established in mid 2008. And the Capital City of Oshikoto region, which brings a big difference and benefits to the residents as well as the region itself.[1].
History
[edit]The contractor in the area, Moses Eriki, constructed a table and chairs under the tree to serve as a resting place for road users. It was also used as a trading spot where villagers exchanged their goods which included food, weapons and crafts which are called battering process. Initially this town was called Omuthiya gwIipundi,” meaning camel thorn tree and resting benches, The Sun people were the first to inhabit this place and later by the cattle herders. It became well-known as a craft and business center, even after the tree fell, people still met and rest at the spot. The first economic activities at Omuthiya included the manufacturing of traditional weapons by the San and it also later served as the military base for King Nehale’s warriors.[2].
