Ken Cimino[edit]

Dr. Ken Cimino, openly gay writer and scholar, grew up in San Bernardino, CA. Was always into gay research and education, but did not explore it until early 30s. It wasn't until he read Micheanglo Signorile's Queer in America in the mid 1990s. It was at that moment he wanted to become an LGBTQ scholar trying to understand and give back to his community. He gave up his career in the Investment Management industry, and went back to graduate school - getting his Phd in 2004

Ken has written numerous articles for Advocate.com, Gay Financial Network, INT Media and CBS Marketwatch. He holds both a MA and PhD in political science from Claremont Graduate Universitys School of Economics and Politics. Also, he holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Southern California. And he holds a BA in History from the University of California at Davis. Before entering the field of academia, Ken, worked several years in the investment management and finance industries in San Francisco. He is a former Advocate editorial intern and has been a featured guest on radio shows, such as Sirius Out "Qs The John McMullen Show and Q TN". Ken lives with his long term partner Wayne in Southern California.

"I wish more of my twenties had been spent reading on the LGBTQ community. So, if I could give any "pearls of wisdom" to young LGBTQ, it would be don't be afraid to get out of the gym and read LGBTQ authors. Working out your brain is just as important as your biceps. Finally, we can't be taken seriously as a culture until we acknowledge the people before us and led the way. In other words, I would hope young LGBTQ know who the heck individuals such as Larry Krammer are." (Kenneth Cimino)

His work includes: The Politics of Crystal Meth: Gay Men Share Personal Stories of Addiction and Recovery (Universal Publishers 2005) Gay Conservatives: Group Consciousness and Assimilation (Harrington Park Press 2006) Nominated for a Lambda Literary Award LGBTQ Studies 2006

Dr. Ken Cimino passed away Friday, June 20, 2008.
