[James Bunn] James Bunn C.Eng (born 1959, Suffolk UK) is a successful businessman who has made a career of leading the turnaround of ailing companies.

His industry recognised achievements have had a positive impact on all industry sectors while his most high profile successes have been in the digital media, entertainment and telecommunications sectors over the past 25 years. By leading, developing, managing and advising businesses and organisations he has made a tangible difference to the commercial landscape worldwide.

Following a successful management career in engineering, marketing, financial services and manufacturing, he joined the Australis Media team, which established cable television in Australia in the early 1990’ s. He was also the architect of the pivotal joint venture agreement with TCI Telecommunications Inc., (later Liberty Global), giving birth to Australia’s first 24-hour sports channel PSN The Premier Sports Network (later FOX Sports Australia and the Fox Footy Channel). The Fox Sports channel which he founded is today regarded by many to be a beacon of profitability in an otherwise declining sector.

Following the October 1985 VFL Commission report “Establishing the basis for future success”, Broadcom Australia were awarded the VFL / AFL TV Rights and James Bunn led this enterprise within Broadcom throughout the early 1990’s. Implementation of his AFL marketing strategy enabled the league to broadcast games in 140 countries and enjoy great commercial success worldwide.

He also founded TPL Worldwide in the mid-1990’s and the business quickly became a market leader exporting Australian broadcast content notably in the entertainment, sports, music, documentary, lifestyle, interactive, children’s and magazine genres. With Bunn as CEO for more than a decade of growth, the business also developed cable TV and broadband operations and channels in 25 countries throughout Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

As an industry leader he was also invited to advise on the 1995 PBL v News Corporation “Superleague” dispute, the 2001 global English (FA) Premier League rights bid, Pele’s France ’98 (Soccer) World Cup Commentary and the 2003 Independent Australian Soccer (Crawford) Review and chaired a France Telecom new media j.v. during 2000/01.

In 2004, following the trade sale of the majority of TPL assets, he established a business improvement practice anticipating a need for business excellence across all sectors. Acting on a desire to give something back, he now mentors a number of business leaders at CEO and Board level on effective leadership. Again the telecommunications, media, sports, entertainment, manufacturing, food processing, government and financial services sectors have been a focus. With the 2007/08 economic downturn there are increasing pressures on all businesses to implement cost and productivity led operational improvement strategies using six sigma based tools and methodology.

Given his background, his continued advisory work also covers the areas of technology adoption, licensing & rights management and effective strategy implementation.

Most recently he has been instrumental in Media and Telecommunications Industry Reform in Australia, the USA, Europe and the UK. He has launched a number of digital catch-up TV applications, regional broadband initiatives and mobile content & broadcast deals and advised on a number of high profile mergers and acquisitions.
